Redesign Overhaul

I had the opportunity to redesign the DeKalb County Convention & Visitors Bureau website—transforming it into a modern, user-friendly resource for both visitors and local businesses. The goal was to create a visually engaging site that made it easy to explore everything the county has to offer, from events and restaurants to parks and seasonal festivals—while also supporting local tourism and marketing efforts.

Approach

The original site struggled with a disjointed user experience and lacked a modern visual identity. To address these challenges, I collaborated with my team to understand the client’s goals, particularly for creating a streamlined and engaging homepage experience.

While staying true to the existing brand, we moved away from the heavy use of navy blue and red, shifting instead to the green and orange found in the logo. This gave the site a more vibrant, playful feel that still felt authentic to DeKalb County. I also updated the typography from a traditional serif to a clean sans-serif font to support a modern and accessible look.

To improve usability and encourage exploration, I collaborated closely with the developer to implement thoughtful interactions in key areas, such as the “Upcoming Events” and “Experience DeKalb County” sections. These components were designed to condense information, enhance scannability, and add a dynamic touch to the interface—all while maintaining an intuitive and visually appealing experience.

The Result

The new website gives DeKalb County a cohesive, tourism-forward platform that’s easy to navigate and optimized for discovery. Visitors can now explore local attractions effortlessly, while businesses benefit from new marketing opportunities.

More Engagement

The new design made the site easier and more enjoyable to use, which led to a noticeable boost in engagement.

By modernizing the design, we helped DCCVB create a more inviting and intuitive experience for both visitors and the community.
